VAUNIX LMS-802DX Lab Brick Signal Generator - available at bq-microwave
The VAUNIX LMS-802DX is a compact, USB-powered Lab Brick Signal Generator covering the frequency range from 2 to 8 GHz, with 100 Hz step size, 80 dB power control range and 10 dBm output power. The LMS series combines cost-effectiveness, full functionality and proven reliability for the microwave test bench - using a native USB HID interface that avoids the difficulties of older serial or IEEE-488 interfaces and requires no kernel-level drivers. The LMS-802DX is available with optional Pulse Modulation (Opt 003) and Frequency Sweep Trigger (Opt 004).
What sets the LMS-802DX apart
The LMS-802DX addresses the S- and C-band range from 2 to 8 GHz with 100 Hz frequency resolution, calibrated power control in 0.5 dB steps and excellent harmonic rejection of -40 dBc. Phase noise reaches typical -98 dBc/Hz @ 100 kHz offset at 2 GHz, and in-band spurious is -80 dBc typ. A 100 µs switching speed enables fast frequency hopping and sweep operations, while the compact form factor (124 x 80 x 40 mm, 450 g) and USB power supply make the LMS-802DX ideal for portable test setups and multi-device ATE applications - multiple generators can be driven from a single PC or self-powered USB hub.

Optional features
The LMS-802DX is available in a standard configuration as well as with two optional modulation features that significantly extend its application range:
Opt 003 - Pulse Modulation (Internal / External)
- Pulse depth: 60 dB min, 70 dB typ.
- Pulse width (min): 100 ns
- Pulse repetition interval (min): 200 ns
- Resolution: 100 ns
- Trigger In/Out: 3 - 5 Vpp via BNC Female
Pulse Modulation is particularly well suited for RADAR receiver system characterization, pulsed RF tests and the simulation of pulsed signals in defense and aerospace applications.
Opt 004 - Frequency Sweep Trigger
- Sweep bands: Band 1 (2 - 4 GHz), Band 2 (4 - 8 GHz)
- Sweep time: 0.001 - 1000 s
- Phase-continuous linear frequency sweep (unidirectional or bidirectional)
- Trigger In/Out: 3 - 5 Vpp via BNC Female
The sweep trigger enables synchronous frequency sweep operations in multi-instrument setups - ideal for VNA calibration workflows, filter characterization and spectrum analyzer synchronization.
Software and control
The LMS-802DX ships with a Windows GUI, Windows API DLL files, Linux SDK, LabVIEW driver and Python examples. The native USB HID interface removes the typical barriers of older serial or IEEE-488 interfaces - the device works out of the box on any system supporting USB HID, including Linux-based embedded computers. Multiple LMS devices can be operated simultaneously from a single PC or self-powered USB hub.
Typical applications
- Portable LO source - local oscillator for mixers, down- and up-converters across S- and C-band
- RADAR receiver test - low-cost signal source for pulsed RF characterization (with Opt 003)
- Engineering and production test labs - multi-device setups with several LMS generators on one PC
- Automated Test Equipment (ATE) - rack-friendly (fits 1U) and SDK-controlled for production test lines
- 5G sub-6 GHz and WiFi test - precise level control for multi-standard wireless validation
- Frequency hopping simulation - fast switching for frequency agility tests (with Opt 004)
